The walled citadel above the mouth of the Bouregreg: blue-and-white lanes, the monumental gate of Bab Oudaya and views over the ocean. About fifteen minutes on foot.

Through Bab Laalou and into the souks. Rue des Consuls, a partly covered street of carpet and craft shops, leads towards the Kasbah.

Rabat’s beach lies below the Kasbah, about a kilometre from the riad, with the jetties of the river mouth beside it.

A house of its time
The house dates from the 1930s, the decades when Rabat’s modern town was laid out beside the old city. Together they were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2012 as “Rabat, Modern Capital and Historic City: a Shared Heritage”.
Around the corner
Cafés, bakeries and markets nearby, the seafront for a walk at sunset, and surf on the beaches of Rabat and, further south, Témara and Harhoura.
